About

In the Abacos enjoying a drink.

Gina Lee Guilford

A former flight attendant and daughter of a National Airlines pilot, I love traveling, cooking, eating and entertaining. My great grandfather, Francesco Carnevale, opened the first Italian restaurant in Miami- The Boathouse on the Miami river. I love food in all forms and exploring Miami’s new hot spots, old institutions and hole in the walls. While I like Italian food, my favorite cuisine is Asian. I also enjoy fresh seafood and utilizing the abundance of tropical fruits we’re lucky to be able to grow in Miami.

What You Do

As the former Miami Dining Examiner for three years, I wrote restaurant reviews and food industry news. Foodie in Miami will continue that work, in addition to recipes, top ten lists and essays.

What You Do

My essay “Getting to Know Jennifer” was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Food and Love book. In addition, it’s been included in Chicken Soup for the Soul’s podcasts, newsletters and a PBS fundraiser show filmed in Atlanta.

What You Do

My recipes have been published in Bon Appetit’s magazine, in the “Too Busy to Cook” section. While I used to spend days preparing dishes, I now prefer simple, healthy dishes over elaborate, time consuming meals.

What You Do

I’m Vice President of the Pinecrest Garden Club. I have a small herb and vegetable garden in my yard, as well as many fruit trees- lychee, starfruit, mango, banana, avocado, jackfruit and passionfruit. I love incorporating these into my meals.
